I believe strongly in the 2nd Amendment and each individual’s right to keep and bear arms. I will fight to protect those rights and fight against any legislation that would try to curb those rights. Virginia has too many gun laws and I will work to eliminate those that are unnecessary. In fact, I would support and possible propose legislation for “Constitutional Carry” in Virginia.
I believe life begins at conception and every life should be protected.
Our government has a spending problem. Our state government would benefit greatly from reducing its size and not creating a society that is reliant on government services.
Taxes are largely tied to spending. As your Delegate, I would work tirelessly to reduce the state’s spending so that taxes can be reduced. I am also mindful that both the state and federal governments have a bad habit of passing unfunded mandates down to local governments and their citizens. You have my assurance that I will not support unfunded mandates in any form.
The best thing government can do to help the economy is get out of the way. Too many politicians incorrectly believe that they can control the economy, when in reality all they are doing is shackling its growth. I believe that small business is the key to a healthy economy because it is small business that provides the most jobs in this country.
I feel strongly about each individual’s property rights, including not only eminent domain, but civil asset forfeiture. Asset forfeiture has become an problem because the government is taking property from people before they have even been charged with a crime, much less convicted. I will support laws that prevent civil seizure of assets before a criminal charge is filed and will prevent forfeiture before a criminal conviction.
I am a strong proponent of the Bill of Rights. I believe in each person’s right to free speech, freedom to choose the religion of their choice, freedom to assemble and peaceably demonstrate. The best way to preserve everyone’s individual civil liberties is to appoint judges who will strictly construe the laws and make sure they follow both the U.S. and Virginia Constitutions. As an attorney who has practiced law for twenty years, I am uniquely qualified to evaluate those that wish to be judges in this Commonwealth.
